Visiting Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona

Horseshoe Bend is one of Arizona’s main attractions, and for good reason. You’ll see pictures of it on billboards, license plates, postcards and more as you drive around the southwest. It’s one of the most marvelous and easily accessible views in the United States, and for that reason alone it’s worth a visit. It’s just a 1.4 mile out and back that is often very crowded.

Details:

Directions (Google Maps): To get to Horseshoe Bend, search for the Horseshoe Bend Overlook in Page, Arizona or click here.

Directions (old school maps): From Kanab, take Highway 89 South/East for 75ish miles, through one roundabout and then you’ll turn right directly into the parking lot. You have to pay for parking. There are plenty of spots and there are bathrooms available.

Driving Info: This is an easy paved drive the entire way. Be cautious driving through Page and over the Glen Canyon Dam when it slows down.

Time & Weather: We hiked this trail in mid February and started hiking around 3pm. The weather was pleasant at 60 degrees but quite windy. There is no shade on this hike so wear sunscreen or a hat.

Gear: We wore 1-2 layers for warmth, normal walking shoes, hat & sunglasses.

Trail Navigation: The trail is easy to follow, there are markers the entire way.

Water & Food: Bring water, especially because it’s Arizona and the heat can be extreme. But this hike is so popular and short that it’s easy enough to walk back to the car to grab snacks and hydrate.

Trailhead Info: The trail is well marked. Please stay on the path and do not disturb the off-trail biodiversity.

Pictures of Horseshoe Bend:

This is not a true hike but you do have to walk 0.7 miles to get to the overlook. There are benches along the way so you can take your time or soak in the distant views. But once you arrive to the overlook you won’t be disappointed. Please be respectful and stay away from the edges, and let others enjoy the view once you’ve had your time.
